What is Permafrost?
Permafrost is a story-driven open world survival sandbox from SpaceRocket Games, set on a near-future Earth locked in endless winter after the shattering of the moon. You play as a Rook, an engineer drawn north by a radio signal from a long-lost friend.
Instead of constant gunfire, the cold is your true enemy. Progress comes from exploration: restore abandoned shelters, repair broken machines and reclaim technology, while your dog companion scouts ahead, warns of danger and carries supplies.

No. The survival meters are Body Warmth, Health, Hunger, Energy and Stamina. Drinking is folded into Hunger, so you never have to find or boil water to avoid dying of thirst.
Yes. Steam lists single-player and the whole story can be played alone. Start a private game; Story difficulty is the gentler setting for a first solo run.

No. The game was first revealed with the Gameplay Teaser on May 21, 2024. The 2021–2022 trailers on YouTube belong to an unrelated film also called Permafrost.

- How much does Permafrost cost?
- The Early Access price is $24.99 with a 20% launch discount, announced on Steam on October 6, 2026. Regional prices are set manually (for example €24.99 in Germany), and the team says the price is very likely to rise before 1.0.
- How many players can play together?
- Solo, or online co-op for up to 4 players. One player hosts the world with a server name and optional password. There are no official dedicated servers, and Steam–Epic crossplay is still in development.
- Is Permafrost coming to PS5 or Xbox?
- Not during Early Access. A PlayStation Store page lists the game as announced with no release date, and the team says consoles are more likely for the 1.0 release. No Xbox version has been announced.
- Do I need to drink water?
- No. There is no separate thirst bar. Drinks such as Improvised Tea and Coffee still help: they restore warmth, energy or health, and drinking is counted toward the Hunger bar.
- How do I save my game?
- Open the pause menu and choose Save. Autosave exists, but playtesters reported it could be over an hour old after a crash, so save by hand before cold zones and caves. Claim a bed to set your respawn point.
- What are the minimum PC requirements?
