Supported languages on Steam

The Steam store page lists nine languages for the Early Access version. English is the only language marked with full audio support. The other eight cover the interface and subtitles, so voiced scenes stay in English.

Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and Traditional Chinese are also missing from the list. That matters for players searching in those languages, since the store tags are the official promise. Anything else would come from the community.

How to change the language

1. In your Steam library, right-click Permafrost and open Properties.
2. Under General, pick a language from the game language list.
3. Let Steam download the language files, then launch the game.
4. If the menus are still in the old language, check the in-game settings and switch it there too.

The game also has its own language setting. The October 11 patch fixed the quest tracker not updating after changing the language, so restart the game if the tracker shows mixed text. A restart also reloads fonts for Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Co-op partners do not need to use the same language. Each player sees the interface in their own setting, while the world and save stay the same. If a friend cannot join, the issue is elsewhere, and our connection checklist covers the common causes.

Is there an official Turkish version?

No official Turkish version exists yet. Turkish is a supported language for the Steam client, but each game sets its own list, and Permafrost does not include it. Neither the roadmap nor the Steam FAQ mentions adding it.

Searches for a Turkish patch have been rising, which shows clear demand. The developers say they read feedback on the Steam forums and their Discord. Asking politely there, with the number of players who want it, is the most direct way to get it considered.

Before installing a Türkçe yama fan patch

Fan translations replace game text files, which makes them a kind of mod. Permafrost has no official mod support, and every patch can overwrite or break those files. The game received seven patches in its first eight days, so expect to reinstall often.

• Download only from a source you trust, and scan any installer before running it.
• Never install a patch that asks for your Steam login or wants to change your account.
• Back up your save files before changing game files.
• After each official update, check whether the patch author has released a matching version.
• If the game crashes or text goes missing, use Steam's Verify integrity of game files to restore the originals.

Partial translations can also hide quest hints, which matters in a game with known quest blockers. If a quest seems stuck, switch back to English and compare the objective text. Our mods guide explains the wider risks of changing game files.

Recent translation fixes

The developers have fixed many translation problems since launch. The October 11 patch fixed Chinese text appearing bold or oversized and translated Cold Resistance in the inventory. The October 14 patch fixed compass directions, tooltips, quest descriptions, dialogue options and the world map text.

Some text is still unfinished. Settings descriptions are hidden for now until their translations are ready, according to the October 14 notes. The October 15 patch then localized bear and boar pelt names and several quest and trader names.
