Permafrost has a PS5 page on the PlayStation Store, but its release date is still to be determined. At Early Access launch on October 9, 2026, the game is only available on PC through Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. The official forum account said consoles will not come during Early Access and are more likely for the 1.0 release. Since Early Access is planned to last at least 12 months, there is no PS5 version to play yet.
The PlayStation Store page
The clearest sign of a PS5 version is an official PlayStation Store concept page published by Toplitz Productions. It lists the game as announced, with a button to add it to your wishlist. Under the release date, the page says it is still to be determined.
The page also lists several PS5 details. It tags a PS5 version with DualSense vibration, Remote Play support and online play for up to four players with PS Plus. PS Plus is listed as required for online play, while online play itself is optional.
Its description matches the PC store text. You play as Rook, an engineer drawn into a frozen world by a radio signal from a long-lost friend. It describes story-driven open-world survival alone or with up to three friends.
Not part of the Early Access launch
Early Access starts on PC only. The publisher's press release says Permafrost is available on PC in Early Access on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store on October 9, 2026. Official trailers, including IGN's release trailer, also only name Steam Early Access.
When a player asked about crossplay on the Steam forum, the official account gave the clearest answer yet. Crossplay is in development because it is needed between Steam and Epic on PC. But consoles will not come during Early Access and are more likely for the 1.0 release.
The Steam FAQ says Early Access will last at least 12 months. That makes a PS5 release before late 2027 unlikely, although no official date has been given. Treat any specific PS5 date you see elsewhere with caution.
Why consoles come after Early Access
Early Access is the team's way of finishing the game with player feedback. In a letter to players as the playtests ended, the developers said they know the game is not perfect yet and that this is exactly why they are heading into Early Access. Console versions would follow once the game is closer to complete.
The launch date itself was moved to give the team more time. Toplitz COO Sebastian Fleer said in the July 2026 press release that they wanted to fine-tune the game from performance to content. Performance work and new content are the focus of the first year, according to the roadmap.
The roadmap lists four updates for Early Access, ending with the White Hell biome in Update 4. Crashes and other technical issues are being handled separately, an official reply said. All of that work happens on PC before any console release.
What is official and what is not
There is no official announcement post or press release about a PS5 version yet. The original 2024 announcement named only PC and Steam. The PlayStation Store listing is the only first-party PS5 signal.

Independent guides reached the same conclusion. Gamebrief noted that no PlayStation release is confirmed by its sources, and Cybrancee said a console release was neither confirmed nor ruled out. Gematsu's developer page tags PS5, but with no date attached.
Can you play it on PS5 now?
No, there is no way to play on PS5 at the moment. The 2024 demo and both 2026 playtests were PC only. Searches for PS5 gameplay only turn up the official PC trailers.
During the October preview, one forum post said a group was on PlayStation, which confused some readers. A forum reply joked by asking whether they meant PS5, PS5 Pro or a do-it-yourself PlayStation. The preview was PC only, so it was a mix-up rather than a hidden console test.
Toplitz has done this before
The publisher has a track record of bringing PC games to consoles later. Toplitz released Medieval Dynasty on PC first and later announced release dates for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions. That pattern fits what the team says about Permafrost.
SpaceRocket Games also describes itself as a PC and console developer. Gematsu's page lists Permafrost with PC, PS5 and Xbox Series tags. None of this sets a date, but it shows that consoles are part of the long-term plan.
Timelines for this game have shifted before. The original 2024 announcement planned a Steam Early Access launch in 2025, and the date moved twice before landing on October 9, 2026. Wait for an official console date rather than relying on guesses.
Playing with a PlayStation controller on PC
If you want a console-style experience now, you can play on PC with a controller. Steam lists partial controller support for the Early Access build. A developer said about half of full controller support was done and that the full game would have it.
Playtesters reported that most actions worked with a gamepad. One known problem was the crafting menu, where some players could navigate but not confirm with a controller. The team said it was aware of the issue and working on it.
What PS5 players can expect from the game
Permafrost is a story-driven open-world survival game set in 2035, ten years after the moon shattered and its ring blocked the sun. The cold is your main enemy, and you survive by scavenging, crafting and building a network of shelters. A rescued dog travels with you and warns you of danger.
It is developed by SpaceRocket Games, a team of around 15 people in Warsaw, Poland, and published by Toplitz Productions in Germany. The PC version offers single-player and online co-op for up to four players. The PlayStation Store page lists the same four-player online support for PS5.
