The developer known-issues post updated October 14 says the basic iron pickaxe tooltip is misleading: Moon Rock requires the quality iron pickaxe. The iron pickaxe tooltip trap
The most useful verified detail is the tool requirement. An ordinary iron pickaxe can claim it mines Moon Rock while still failing at the deposit. Use the quality iron pickaxe specified by the developer, rather than repeating swings with the basic one.

Where community guides report Moonrock
Community mining guides report Moonrock around meteor impact sites, bunker areas and the Crater. Use these as late-game search areas rather than a promise of a node at a particular coordinate. This guide does not include an independently surveyed interactive map.
- Check your world map and progression before planning a Crater trip.
- Inspect the deposit label; visual resemblance to another ore is not enough.
- Prepare a shelter route and appropriate clothing before entering colder territory.
- Take screenshots or notes of useful landmarks because custom pins may disappear after a restart.
From Moon Rock to Moonrock Ingots
Community recipe listings place Moonrock Ingots at the Professional Smelter. Owning raw ore alone does not mean the lower-tier furnace can process it. Check that the station is built, fuelled and showing the desired recipe before collecting a large haul.
Do not confuse Moonrock with Quality Metal, which has its own iron-and-scrap recipe chain. The resources overview explains the station progression. Exact costs should come from the current in-game recipe, since Early Access patches can change them.
If Moonrock mining still fails
- Check that the node is labelled Moon Rock or Moonrock.
- Equip the quality iron pickaxe, not the basic iron pickaxe.
- Check tool condition and repair it if needed.
- Check that your game has the latest patch installed.
